About CICH

CICH

The Canadian Institute of Child Health (CICH) is a national non-profit organization, founded in 1977 to promote the health and well-being of all children and youth in Canada.  CICH has an outstanding history of developing and implementing initiatives to enhance public awareness and understanding of issues impacting on children’s health.  We carry out research, we make policy recommendations, and we help communities to develop their resources and improve the health and development of their children.  It is fair to say that we have positively touched the life of virtually every child in Canada.

The Health of Canada’s Children and Youth: A CICH Profile, published in both English and French, is a national compendium of information which is a resource of immense value to professionals, caregivers, organizations and policy-makers.  We translate research and scientific information into understandable, easy-to-read material which is accessible to the general public.  CICH resources are used by early learning centres, kindergartens and elementary schools, and by parents, caregivers and even children themselves.  We distribute them to expectant parents, to parenting classes, to regional health centres, and to health professionals and counselors, who pass them on.

In our promotion of healthy development in safe and caring environments, we focus on healthy pregnancy and childbirth, on protection against factors which may negatively affect children’s health and development, on ongoing monitoring of the health of Canada’s children, and on advocacy of measures to improve Canada’s successes in these areas.  For more information, visit http://www.cich.ca/
